I'm currently sat in a cave on top of the island on which I found the alien structure. It's cool in here and the area is lit up by the glow of alien technology all around me. I had thought that the thing I'm now thinking of as the Enforcement Platform would be the only thing on this island, but I was completely wrong.
Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. After the shock of what happened in the terminal room, I decided to explore the island itself to calm myself down a bit and hopefully find some useful resources or materials.
I found some markers made of the same alien material as the structure which seemed to follow a path leading up the side of a hill and into a cave system. I followed the path inside, well aware that my flashlight was running low on battery and I stupidly hadn't brought any more with me.
Climbing higher and higher, following the cables and markers that lined the caves, I eventually came to a much larger area and in the middle of it, under alien floodlights, was another archway.
I'd seen one like this in lower levels of the Enforcement Platform, but this one had a pedestal on one side. As I approached it, a second smaller object rose from the pedestal and I felt the energy crystals in my pack vibrate, as if in recognition. It was the weirdest feeling, standing there in front of that alien archway, holding a glowing green power cube in front of me.
Suddenly, the box-like object opened and sucked the cube out of my hands, before snapping shut and retracting back into the pedestal. I was almost floored by a wave of force that seemed to emanate from the archway, as a field of energy, rippling like water, filled the empty space.
So, I'm sat here in this cave, watching light from the archway play over the walls and wondering what to do now. Is this some kind of portal? if so, is something going to come through at any moment? Where does it lead? Could it be a way to get off this planet?
I have so many questions and no way of getting any answers. Do I take the chance of walking through the archway, not knowing what will happen? I could walk out of this cave, go back to the lifepod and try to survive a little longer, maybe build a life here on my own. But I could die just as easily out there, just more slowly.
If there is a chance, however slim, that this portal can help me get off this planet, then I should take it, whatever happens.
I guess that's my decision.
